Efficiency Planning

Since 1999/2000, efficiency targets have been set for the police service in England and Wales. Following Spending Review 2004 the tripartite partners agreed an efficiency strategy for the police service for the years 2004/05 to 2007/08 and guidance for efficiency planning was issued. A number of efficiency planning workshops have been held to support forces. Documents from these workshops from 2005 onwards, as well as guidance and toolkits are available below.

• Efficiency Plan Guidance 2007 onwards - Annex C Template (Microsoft Excel file - 1mb - Warning: large file)

  Annex C to the EP guidance comprises Excel workbooks which it is recommended that forces use. The template contains a column which enables identification, if any, of these three broad workstreams each planned efficiency gain contributes.

  ACPO, APA and the Home Office are committed to work in partnership to deliver cumulative year on year improvements in police service efficiency in pursuit of these very challenging targets. If progress is to be made towards targets of this magnitude, co-ordinated service-wide approaches will be needed to drive out substantial gains in key areas.
